Reliable? Don't know.May 20, 2020I set my cooler up, but didn't plug it in until the next day. While adjusting the temperature setting, the entire display went dark. It came back on after unplugging, waiting ten minutes, then plugging it back in. I put a remote digital thermometer transmitter in the unit, set it to the minimum 41 degrees and let it cool overnight. The next day the temperature read 46 degrees. To confirm the discrepancy I put a sealed bottle of water, plus the remote thermometer transmitter, side-by-side on a mid-located shelf, then set the temperature control to 48 degrees. After 8 hours the remote thermometer read 53 degrees and the water was also 53 degrees as read by a calibrated instant-read digital thermometer. So, the actual temperature is 5 degrees warmer than the setting, meaning the minimum temperature possible would be 46 degrees instead of the advertised 41 (how many reviewers have taken actual measurements?). I put 11 room-temperature (76 degrees) wine bottles in the cooler, then monitored the thermometers as the cooler worked to chill the bottles. It took 5 hours for the temperature to drop 4 degrees from 60 to 56. I presently have the setting at 48 and the cooler is maintaining a 53-degree reading. I can't help thinking that this unit is under-powered, and since other reviewers have noted similar discrepancies I'm wondering if the inaccurate temperature controls are deliberate to cover the deficiency. I can live with the 5-degree error, but I am suspicious of how hard this unit might have to work to maintain a decent white wine temperature reliably and how long it will last.
